No Offense Series Part 3

Luke 18:9- Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Luke 18:10- “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

Luke 18:11- The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

Luke 18:12- I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’

Luke 18:13- And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

Luke 18:14- I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Even if we are right, our approach may be wrong which discounts our rightness

Jesus wasn't just concerned about right and wrong, He was also concerned about pride and humility

Jesus didn't make them feel wrong, Jesus made them feel loved

John 13:1-Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

John 13:2- And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him,

John 13:3- Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,

John 13:4- rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.

John 13:5- After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

John 13:33- Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you.

John 13:34- A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

John 13:35- By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

They will know that we belong to Jesus by the way that we love them

1 Cor 13:1- Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

1 Cor 13:2- And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

1 Cor 13:3- And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

We lead with love

James 1:19 - My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Jesus was others focused

How effective is your anger?

James 1:19 - My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

James 1:20- because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Do you want to make a point? Or do you want to make a difference?

Matt 22:37- Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

Matt 22:38- This is the first and great commandment.

Matt 22:39- And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

We lead with love

How do we let go of the anger and how do we overcome offenses?

1-Lower your expectation of others

2-Raise your gratitude for God's grace

How is it that we're made right with God?

Ephesians 2:8- For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

Ephesians 2:9- not of works, lest anyone should boast.

We are made right by the grace of God.
