Focus Areas

We are excited to launch into a New Year and New Decade! As a church we start each year with a 21 day corporate fast.  We have found that during periods of fasting, God meets with us in very unique and special ways. His presence grows greater and greater with each day of the fast. Without fail, He always shows up!

Fasting is a principle that God intended for everyone to be able to enjoy. It’s not a punishment; it’s a privilege! By making fasting a way of life, you can get closer to God and grow in your spiritual walk like never before. Fasting is one of the most powerful weapons God has given us for our daily lives. When you fast and pray, you will see amazing results from God.

Our fast begins Monday, January 6, 2020 and ends Sunday, January 26, 2020. Unity Church’s 2020 theme is “INTENTIONAL”. We pray that you will partner with us in the following categories of the fast.

We are fasting with the WHOLE MAN. We want you to do all 5 focus areas simultaneously throughout the fast.

SPIRITUALLY - I am saved.

  • Set aside time each day to pray and read the scriptures that have been outlined each week.
  • Listen to worship songs in the morning and evening.

MENTALLY - I am happy.

  • Be INTENTIONAL everyday to do something that makes you happy.
  • Take Monday mental breaks from social media.

RELATIONALLY - I am loved.

INTENTIONALLY put into action these heart healing steps:

  • Forgive anyone who may have offended you.
  • Set relational boundaries.
  • Spend time and pay more attention to those you love.
  • Check on each other (in person, by phone calls, not through social media or texts.)
  • Attend worship service to build more spiritual connections.

Section Title

 PHYSICALLY - I am healthy.

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (1 Cor. 6:19). Beyond a New Year’s Resolution to be healthy we are going to INTENTIONALLY exercise and stretch daily.

DID YOU KNOW? DAILY STRETCHING

increases blood flow to the muscle. Increases oxygen levels. Helps improve flexibility, improving range of motion in your joints. Releases tension in both the body and mind.

We are also participating in an Intermittent Fast.

Intermittent fasting is not a diet, it's a pattern of eating. It's a way of scheduling your meals so that you get the most out of them. Intermittent fasting doesn’t change what you eat, it changes when you eat.

Intermittent fasting is a very good thing because it falls into the category of “simple enough that you’ll actually do it, but meaningful enough that it will actually make a difference.” Especially coupled with scriptures and prayer.

VERY IMPORTANT!

If you are pregnant, have any known medical conditions, or suspect such conditions, consult your doctor. If you have health issues, you should always talk with your health professional before starting the fast or any other major change in your diet. Also be aware that as we age, we react differently to dramatic dietary changes. Fasting should never bring harm to the body, so medications should be continued.

It is important to recognize that if you have any condition which would prohibit you from taking part in the fast, there are other options. Choose something from your daily routine (i.e., specific foods or beverages, television, other technology, etc.) and fast in that manner for the 21 days. The Bible references fasting in the context of restricting food for a spiritual purpose.

FINANCIALLY - I am wealthy.

We are excited to get ahold of our finances for the new year and to develop good money habits that will honor God as we are being good stewards over what He has blessed us with.  During this financial fast we will save money, give, and write down our expenses which will help us to identify where we are spending money.  We will begin to develop a greater relationship with money by keeping it in our bank accounts.

Are you ready to take control of your finances?  Are you ready to develop habits that will intentionally cause your money to be obedient and begin to work for you?  Proverbs 21:20 “There is desirable treasure, and oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man squanders it.”

During the fast, we will be on a “No Spend” plan.  How does this work?  Do not spend money on ANYTHING other than your four walls.  Your four walls are: rent or mortgage (shelter), utility bills, food and transportation.  You are ONLY spending money on your essentials.  Ask yourself, “Am I spending money on a “want” or a “need”?  A need is not a new pair of shoes for an event that you have scheduled, or even eating out for lunch at work.
